About the Author:

Sally Hewitt was a teacher for 10 years before she became a fulltime non-fiction author. She has written more than 250 books for children on a wide range of topics, including science and nature. She lives in Great Britain.

Angela Royston has written nearly 300 non-fiction books for children on subjects as diverse as weather, climate change, animals, the human body, space and other scientific topics.

Royston's latest science title is an in-depth introduction to the human body for the youngest readers.... The book treats subtopics in successive double-page spreads, making information easily digestible for young children. Throughout the text, the emphasis is both on understanding how the body works and learning how to keep it in prime condition by eating right, exercising and so on. The "notes for parents and teachers" at the conclusion of each chapter give ideas for further activities that will broaden and deepen the children's understanding. This hands-on approach, which continues in the activity sections that grace almost every spread, is what truly makes this book shine. This is a very nice book with great pictures that appeals to people of all ages. Though it seems targeted mainly at elementary school children, middle school and high school kids may also benefit from reading the book. The pictures help the reader focus on the material being discussed. The content is accurate and can be used to encourage younger kids to learn about the workings of the human body.
