Profiles French Resistance members
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Delbo (Auschwitz and After, LJ 5/1/95) has composed an unusual collective biography as a memorial to 230 women of the French Resistance. Arrested for distributing leaflets; supplying food, arms, and sanctuary to other activists; and the like, these women were sent as a group to Birkenau ("Auschwitz II") in January 1943. Only 49, including Delbo, survived to be liberated. The biographical sketches of each woman include background, circumstances of arrest, Auschwitz number, experiences in camp, and the aftermath. A moving, monumental work; appropriate for Holocaust and women's studies collections in public and academic libraries.?Patricia A. Beaber, Trenton State Coll. Lib.,
