Review:

This book is a must-read for school counselors, teachers, administrators, and other professionals who want a solid, research-based, and comprehensive guide on counseling for cyberbullying. This is not just another book on cyberbullying. While cyberbullying is a growing concern, and more and more materials are available, there is no other book for counselors which is as complete and powerful. Dr. Bauman lays a great foundational overview of theories of aggressive behavior (without overwhelming with detail), and then describes specific, practical counseling strategies for bullies, victims, and their parents. She addresses cyberbullying in various age ranges, and considers the effectiveness of punitive versus nonpunitive approaches. I found particularly unique her discussions of restorative justice and practice and the method of shared concern, which are ideas rarely discussed in books on cyberbullying. Her chapter on the various roles of counselors (including advocacy, training, counseling, and ethics) is excellent and challenges and empowers counselors to have a broader impact through key functions with respect to combating cyberbullying. Her appendix of current research and key findings on cyberbullying is a tremendous added value. As another professional in the cyberbullying field, I can vouch that Dr. Bauman has the 'heads above' respect of her peers-for producing numerous articles of new research, heading up a leading think tank of international experts on cyberbullying, and now this book-which fills a key gap in the cyberbullying literature for counselors. --Jenny Walker, PhD, President ,Cyberbullying Consulting, Ltd
