This is the English translation of L'Oeuvre Grave de Vuillard , published in 1948 by Andre Sauret. Prefaced by a ten-page essay on the background, themes, technique, and sensibility of Vuillard's print production, the book consists mostly of black-and-white plates. The few double-page spreads are cut in half by the binding, to their disadvantage, but the remaining plates are handsomely reproduced. Given that other, more reasonably priced material is available on the graphic work of Vuillard--including The Nabis and the Parisian Avant Garde , edited by Patricia E. Boyer ( LJ 3/1/89), and Pierre Bonnard: The Graphic Work (Abrams, 1989), which includes many Vuillard prints--this book will be regarded by most libraries as too expensive.
