Barbara Bodner-Johnson, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Education at Gallaudet University. Dr. Bodner-Johnson holds degrees from the University of Iowa and Creighton University; she earned her doctoral degree in education at Syracuse University. She has directed research projects focusing on families who are hearing who have deaf or hard of hearing children and is the author and co-author of chapters and articles on family learning environments, family dinnertime conversation, family life experiences of deaf college students, parents as adult learners, and best practices in family-centered early intervention programming.
Dr. Bodner-Johnson's current focus in the Department of Education at Gallaudet University is on preparing teachers to work with young deaf children and their families. She taught preschool at the Iowa School for the Deaf, middle school at the Ohio School for the Deaf, and secondary level students at Oak Lodge School in London, England. She directed and taught in a parent-infant program for deaf children and their families in Syracuse, New York, and held a faculty position at Syracuse University.Review:
