The tone of this book is reminiscent of a college journalism text, especially the questions for review at the end of each chapter. However, anyone looking for an approach to design using QuarkXPress or for a way to learn more about design itself can ignore those questions or work on them silently.
The book contains a nice selection of good design examples. Using this pedagogic approach, it attempts to walk the reader through what would take years of design education to achieve. It's a fairly brisk walk, but the organization and approach will allow you to read Designer QuarkXPress cover to cover and then use it later as a reference to approaching design tasks in QuarkXPress itself. The Macintosh floppy includes templates for a lengthy tutorial section toward the back of the book. QuarkXPress 3.3 isn't mentioned specifically, but Designer QuarkXPress doesn't attempt to be comprehensive, just educational.
