Fiction-Young Adult Adventure Novel (Ages 15-18). The Looking Glass Self is an intriguing novel about a 16-year old boy named Eddie Mandarell who discovers his true path to self-actualization and success. He uncovers the mysterious existence of his late grandfather's ghost who returns to earth to help Eddie achieve success in sports. A year after grandfather Pepe's death, Eddie discovers the ghost in the attic of his grandmother's mansion. The ghost's image appears capsulated inside an old reversible mirror. The ghost is the physical image of Eddie but possesses the voice of his late grandfather. After revealing to Eddie the purpose of his return from the grave, the ghost gives Eddie an old Indian artifact, a magical medallion presented to the family in the early 1900s, which enables him to undergo a transformation of his athletic weaknesses. Oversome by his sudden success in sports and defiant to the ghost's warnings, Eddie becomes so cocky and obnoxious to friends that he becomes unpopular and disliked. While driven by his desire for success, Eddie discovers the pitfalls of his obsession and suffers the heavy cost of ignoring the characteristics of his inner self. Will Eddie see his dream of success come full circle? Will he come to understand the true purpose of his grandfather's spiritual return? Pepe's ghost is determined, for better or worse, to teach Eddie the lesson of following his true inner self. The question is, will he learn the lesson in time to help his team to a state football championship and win back the respect of his close friends in the process?
