Domenico Mazzone was born in 1927 in Rutigliano di Bari, Italy. His father died when Domenico was 4 years old. Almost overnight, his life became a bitter struggle. At the tender age of 13, he began working as an apprentice to a local stone cutter. It was there that he realized he had a rare gift for working with marble, and, within a few years, he began a career a sculptor.
In 1966 Domenico came to the United States. He quickly gained wide recognition and, in 1968, opened his first studio in New York city. He became a naturalized citizen in 1976 and he was appointed Instructor of Sculpture at the United National International School in New York that same year.
Domenico Mazzone is an internationally recognized sculptor listed in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in International Art. He was a member of the National Sculpture Society, and his work is represented in many prestigious museums and private collections throughout the world. He is considered to be one of the finest sculptors of the 20th century.
