About the Author

In 1985, Marianne Walker was asked to give a talk on GONE WITH THE WIND. She had never read the novel, but when she learned that John Marsh, the husband of author Margaret Mitchell, was from nearby Marysville, Kentucky, she decided to look further into the subject.

Walker's search led her all over Kentucky, then much of the rest of the country. She interviewed many people who were close to the couple and found newpaper clippings, photographs, telegram, and, most importantly, 200 never-before-published letters from Mitchell and Marsh to their family and friends. The result of this research is this book.

Marianne Walker has also written for the New York Times Book Review and the Louisville Courier-Journal. She is a professor of English and philosophy at the University of Kentucky/Henderson Community College, where she has taught for seventeen years. Born in Monroe, Louisiana and a graduate of St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans, she received her M.A. from the University of Evansville in Indiana in 1976.
