About the Author:

Diane Walteris founder and president of Human Performance Applications, a Seattle-based firm specializing in on-the-job training. She is a consultant and workshop leader whose unique team-driven OJT system has caught the attention and passion of companies throughout the United States and Canada. With more than 13 years' experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating OJT, Walter has helped employees at all organization levels identify skill and knowledge gaps, reduce process variation, redefine procedures and processes, write training materials and job aids, and train fellow workers where it matters most--on the job. She has trained and certified in-house on-the-job trainers in a variety of organizations, ranging in size from 50 to more than 100,000 employees. She is a frequent speaker at international and national conferences, and the author of numerous articles for professional and trade publications.

In 1982, Walter was awarded a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Washington and, in 1987, received a master of arts degree in psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Her master's work was focused on organizational change and individual and team performance on the job. She has developed courses and consulted on team building, conflict resolution, motivation, communication, decision making, human behavior, and on-the-job training. In addition to the team-driven structured OJT model presented in this book, Walter has created models for conducting needs assessments, performing task analyses, identifying contributing factors and root causes of accidents and incidents, and evaluating employee performance.

Review:

Walter provides a detailed on-the-job training road map focused on the teamwork, quality, and the bottom-line results--all essential elements for any training program in today's competitive business environment. This task-based, employee-driven system provides a platform for consistent training and ensures the competency of all employees. If you buy only one OJT book this year, then this is the one to buy! --Martin G. Schaaf, Assistant General Manager, Technical Training, FlightSafety Boeing

With this system we hit the ground running. This is an on-the-job training system that REALLY works! It is the perfect tool to use if you need to quickly develop a real, hands-on OJT program for a specific task, or you just need to standardize processes...this book IS better than sliced bread! Job satisfaction and morale go way up! --Linda Meagher, Training Manager, Washington Mutual

This is a 'must have' book for anyone looking for a simple OJT process that any employee can understand and implement. I wish I had had this book when I first started using the system! This team-driven approach has greatly improved our training effectiveness and efficiency, improved processes and procedures, and has brought a real spririt of ownership and pride among our employees. It is now one of our Best Practices. --Jan Mileskey, Safety Manager, Nestle Confections and Snacks
