A rhythmic text and atmospheric illustrations evoke the special feeling of a rainy day as a child plays in the rain and then goes to bed dreaming about what the world will look like tomorrow.

PreSchool-Grade 1-A little girl awakens to find her surroundings soaked with rain. A glance outside the window reveals "...wet trees wet leaves wet grass." After breakfast, the child dresses for her entrance into the "wet world." Her day includes such activities as watching "Windshield wipers wipe the wet..." and splashing through puddles, and then she returns home, where everything is warm, from the stove to her parents' good-night kisses. She drifts off to sleep wondering what the world will be like tomorrow. The poetic text aptly and alliteratively moves through the youngster's day with a simplicity appropriate for beginning readers. The watercolor illustrations reflect the rainy weather. Bright colors indoors make quite a contrast to the grayness outside, and lend a feeling of coziness comforting to young children. A useful addition for units dealing with weather, or simply as a rainy-day read-aloud.

Ages 3^-5. Developing a mood rather than a story, this picture book concerns a little girl who awakens to a rainy day. The first-person text contrasts the wet world outside with the warmth of breakfast and the wet rain boots, rain hat, and raincoat with the dry feet, arms, and head underneath, and it ends with the child back in bed wondering what tomorrow will bring. The rhythm and the tactile images of the text will appeal to young children. So will the bright watercolor artwork depicting the girl both out in the rain and cozy at home. Simple and pleasing, this picture book is a natural choice for brightening a rainy-day story hour. Carolyn Phelan
