Reviews

Paper sculpture includes three-dimensional figures made by folding (origami), assembly (glued), or molded pulp (papier mache). This collection compiled by LaFosse, an origami artist and teacher, brings together projects by a dozen artists. Each project has step-by-step instructions with excellent color photographs and an idea gallery of photos of finished items by artists who work with paper. A directory of artists is included. This is a good source book for ideas and techniques.

Sculpting with paper: There are seemingly endless ways to transform paper into three-dimensional artwork. To help you understand some of the common approaches to making paper art, however, the artists' demonstrations and galleries in "Paper Art" are organized into three basic categories - folded paper, assembled paper, and working from pulp - that are briefly described in the following pages. These categories help to characterize each of the artist's work; they attempt to describe how the artists sees themselves in the context of paper art. Most of the paper artists in the book, however, draw on a combination of the different paper sculpting techniques to make inspiring artwork that is truly their own.
