Reviews

Grade 4-7. A basic introduction to seeds that includes projects and experiments. The clearly written, interesting text is enhanced by numerous high-quality, full-color photographs. Each experiment is introduced by a question (e.g., "How does water affect seed growth?" "Can plants grow around obstacles?"), includes a list of materials and instructions, and ends with "Results" and "Conclusion" sections that pose additional questions and encourage the interpretation of experiment results (Pascoe does not give "expected results" before the experiments are actually done). Although the information can be found in other books, the inviting format and investigative approach of Seeds and Seedlings make it a good choice for young readers and teachers looking for science activities.?Carolyn Angus, The Claremont Graduate School, CA
