In the first independent book on the case, which arrives at conclusions not by conviction but by reportage, investigative reporter Dave Lindorff offers explosive new evidence about the prosecution, the defense and Mumia Abu-Jamal. Consider:

The evidence being kept hidden from the public-by both the defense and the prosecution.
New evidence to show presiding Judge Sabo had made up his mind about the case-and the punishment-before the trial's end.
The extent of police corruption-not just in Philadelphia, but of a third of those working directly on the case.
The disastrous missteps of Abu-Jamal's appellate lawyers and the secret flaws of his new defense team.
The struggle over Abu-Jamal's new line of defense arguing that a hit man may have been involved.
New evidence about the "blurted out" confession Abu-Jamal is alleged to have uttered.
What Judge Yohn, who set aside the death sentence, missed entirely.
And the missing evidence that reveals the presence of another participant at the shooting scene.

A compelling page-turner by an investigator who never stops digging. Wherever you started on this famous case, Lindorff will leave you with an entirely new perspective.

From the Author:
I began working on "Killing Time" several years ago, after I was asked to do a book on the Mumia Abu-Jamal case by Common Courage Press. Common Courage was looking for a veteran investigative reporter to go unflinchingly into all aspects of the incident, the trial and the appeals process, and promised to publish whatever I came up with. Though I had no opinion at the time regarding Abu-Jamal's guilt or innocence, I was immediately intrigued by the project. As an opponent of the death penalty, I suspected that this case, involving as it did the shooting of a white police officer by a black radical, would address many of the critical issues involving capital punishment, specifically the role of race, politics and money in who gets convicted and who gets a death sentence. I was not disappointed. The more I researched this story, the clearer it became that whatever happened on Dec. 9, 1981, this was not a case of first-degree murder. It became clear too that Abu-Jamal never had even the semblance of a fair trial or a fair appeal of his conviction. Along the way, I discovered too that the defense has made its own share of mistakes. The biggest seems to be the decision made in 2001 to attempt to claim the defendant is wholly innocent of the shooting and that Officer Daniel Faulkner was actually killed by a hit-man hired by corrupt Philadelphia police. The effort to get this self-confessed hit man’s wild story into court after it was already rejected by Abu-Jamal 1999 as being not credible threatens to destroy Abu-Jamal's entire habeas appeal of his conviction and leave him either facing execution or a life in prison without hope of parole. It is my hope that this heavily footnoted work will serve as a resource for all those who really want not just to chant slogans but to be able to figure out for themselves where truth and justice lie in this troubling, decades-old case.
