This story of a disabled boy's battle to overcome a National Little League's decision to ban him from a baseball team for violating an age-limit restriction is an outgrowth of an article that appeared in Reader's Digest (March 1990). The author, a columnist for the Houston Post and journalism teacher at Texas Southern University, takes the occasion to fire several broadsides at league officials for their rigid adherence to rules, callous attitudes, careless approach to screening coaches, and wasting of funds on useless training facilities. On the positive side, he foresees the Americans with Disabilities Act as having a favorable impact on the system. Harasim closes by paying tribute to the Shriners' organization for its help to disabled children. For comprehensive collections.
