This book captures the insurgent, unconventional, pioneering art activities and history of the legendary Rivington School, a large gang of street artists, sculptors, welders, performers, noise bands, trouble makers and Neoists who took over abandoned lots and buildings in New York’s Lower East Side in the 80s and turned them into junk gardens, welding workshops and performance spaces. Documents, in words & photographs, the origins & evolution of the legendary Rivington School on New York's Lower East Side, created by a disparate band of "street artists, sculptors, welders, performers, noise bands, trouble makers, & Neoists" who took over abandoned buildings & lots & transformed them into magical new spaces for artistic expression. Because it was unpermitted, the city of New York, was constantly dismantling the School's work. Though WorldCat lists a British edition from 2016, there is no mention of this edition in this book. At the least, it is the FIRST American edition, First Printing, from 2020, & only 11 copies of either edition are located worldwide (5/24). Large softcover quarto (9" x 12") has glossy black./white/gray/red decorative wrappers, in 288 pages. Condition is Near Fine, with extremely mild edgewear. Else, completely clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages white & unmarked, colors vivid.
