Since the advent of the sexual revolution in the 1960s and 1970s, sex is no longer a subject of taboo. Just about every television show and song on the radio is filled with sexual innuendo and suggestive remarks. Times have changed so significantly in the last fifty years that even topics such as homosexuality and STD’s are discussed over dinner. However, some topics still cause people to blush, one of the most prominent being impotence. In Impotence and Prostate Solutions by Donald L. McCarty, impotence is examined from a recovering patient’s perspective in hopes that men who suffer from it may know that they are not alone in their plight.
McCarty is a prostate cancer survivor who remembers how difficult it was to ask the right questions and find easy-to-understand literature concerning impotency and prostate problems. Thus, he is releasing a book which covers all aspects of impotency from what it is and why it occurs to what can be done about it. He cites the importance of proper prostate treatment so prostate problems will not lead to erectile dysfunction. Each chapter is devoted to a specific problem, or stage, of impotency. For instance, one chapter deals with the several degrees of impotence that range from absolute impotence, which is being unable to achieve or maintain an erection, to priapism where the erection will not subside. Women, especially wives of men with erectile dysfunction, will find this book extremely useful as well, as it helps explain not only how to deal with their spouses’ physical problems, but also how to help their men cope mentally and emotionally.
Impotence and Prostate Solutions is a must-read for men and women who are involved with prostate or impotency problems. McCarty’s relaxed and reassuring tone assures the reader that impotency does not mean the end of one’s sex life or marriage. He emphasizes the importance of couples working together and realizing that intimacy can still be achieved. McCarty’s personal experiences and vast research make this a legitimate and interesting read, and hopefully one that will lead to a more fulfilling life.
