"Skyward or E Pluribus Unum" is a remarkable piece of genealogical pride by a woman who is herself living history. Written in the form of a narrative poem, this new work traces the history of Dr. Marion Carter’s family from 1735 to the present. Included among ancestors of Dr. Carter’s are Native Americans, adventurers, entertainers, artisans, professionals and the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Beautifully illustrating both the love the author has for her family and the pride she takes in its truly remarkable history, "Skyward or E Pluribus Unum" tells the amazing story of three generations of women in her genealogical tree – beginning with her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Scott Cox, continuing with her grandmother, Nannie Cox Jackson, and finally, concluding with her mother, Marion Louise Jackson Carter.

Rarely seen nowadays, her use of epic poetry captures the essence of Dr. Carter’s historical family, while presenting the emotion existing in both the author’s perception of "the family" and "social order." Readers will not only enjoy the history of Dr. Carter’s family, but will become immersed in Dr. Carter’s obvious true love and belief in family values and connections to her past. "Skyward or E Pluribus Unum" is sure to enthrall anyone with an interest in genealogy, American history and above all, engaging, eloquent writing in a long-forgotten form.
