Jerome Doherty was an average all-American college student in 1960 when he began training for service in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing officer training in 1964, he was assigned to an infantry battalion that was shipped to the island of Okinawa for training; however, an incident off the coast of Vietnam causes the unit to get orders to land in South Vietnam, where it is feared that communists from North Vietnam are poised to take over the country.
Thrust into an unknown country and culture, Doherty is faced with the challenges of protecting both himself and the Marines under his command while fighting a war unlike any other in history. Unflinchingly honest and uncompromisingly real, A Civilian in Green Clothes is not just the story of one man, but the tale of an entire generation.
