About the Author:

Sue Nickels has taught machine quilting and applique techniques for ten years. She has made quilts for over 20 years, starting with hand techniques and gradually focusing on machine work. A regular teacher at The Icehouse in Grayling, Michigan, she has also taught and lectured at American Quilter's Society (AQS) National Quilting Association and International Quilt Association shows. Sue has taught at national conferences including the Empty Spools Seminar at Asilomar and Quilting-by-the-Sound in Washington, internationally in England, and she is a much-sought instructor in guilds across the country. Sue is the coauthor of two books with her sister, Pat Holly, and they also sew quilts together. Their quilt Blackbirds Fly won many national awards, and The Beatles Quilt claimed the 1998 AQS Best of Show award. Sue's quilts have appeared in numerous publications. Turkey Tears appeared in the November 1998 issue of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. Le Panier De Fleurs was awarded First Place Wall Quilt at the 2000 Quilter's Heritage Celebration in Lancaster and also won third place quilt in the AQS 2000 Quilt Exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee. Sue has also designed a line of quilting stencils for machine quilting available through Quilting Creations International, Inc. She lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her husband, Tim, and two daughters, Jessica and Ashley. Her priorities are to make the best quilts she can using today's technology and to share her knowledge with quilters everywhere.

From Library Journal:

An award-winning quilter and teacher of many years, Nickels has taken one of the most popular workshops she offers a sampler of machine applique techniques as the subject for this book. She guides the reader step by step through three popular techniques in machine applique: invisible applique, template-and-starch applique, and raw-edge fusible applique. Patterns for three gorgeous sampler quilts illustrate all techniques taught in the book. Written for intermediate quilters with basic quiltmaking skills, this is an excellent choice for public libraries and for all quilting collections.
