Upon feeling a sunbeam for the first time, a young hedgehog decides to build a treehouse so that he can see the sun itself, and, despite teasing and a bet with a wily fox, he finds a way to get the job done.

PreSchool-Grade 2-Quentin, a hedgehog, encounters a sunbeam for the first time. Enthralled with his discovery, he decides to build a tree house so that he can view the sun from above the treetops. A fox challenges his ability to succeed at such a task and makes a bet with him. If the hedgehog finishes the structure in three days, the fox will cook a feast for his "tree house-warming party"; if he loses, the hedgehog will have to clean Fox's burrow (Fox actually plans to eat him). Resourceful Quentin enlists the help of other animals by offering to do everyday tasks for them in return. Although the fox assumes early on that he has won, he is proven wrong in the end, as Quentin and his friends gather in the tree house to admire the sun. The cartoon artwork, done in pastel colors with soft edges, sets the tone for the story. The bright hues of the sun contrast with the cool tones of the forest. A quiet read that emphasizes cooperation.
