It's 1783 and wealthy Paul Déroulède has offended the young Vicomte de Marny by speaking disrespectfully of his latest infatuation, Adèle de Monterchéri. Déroulède had not intended to get into the quarrel but had a tendency to blunder into things - "no doubt a part of the inheritance bequeathed to him by his bourgeois ancestry." I Will Repay is a sequel novel to the Scarlet Pimpernel. The second Pimpernel book written by Orzcy, it comes third in the series and should be read after Sir Percy Leads the Band and before The Elusive Pimpernel.

Baroness Orczy was born in Hungary in 1865, the daughter of Baron Felix Orczy, a landed aristocrat and well-known composer and conductor. She moved with her parents from Budapest to Brussels and then Paris, where she was educated. Orczy also studied art in London and exhibited work at the Royal Academy. Later sheMontagu Barstow and together they worked as illustrators and jointly published an edition of Hungarian folk tales. Fame came in1905 with the publication of The Scarlet Pimpernel, which was originally a play co-written with her husband. Its background of Revolution in France and swashbuckling hero, 'Sir Percy Blakeney', was to prove immensely popular. Sequels followed and many years later film and TV versions are enduringly popular, with new productions from time to time. However, Orczy also wrote detective stories which have a following today amongst those interested in the genre. She died in 1947.From AudioFile:
Published in 1906, this tale of high romance and intrigue, set during the bloodiest days of the French Revolution, is the first of several sequels to The Scarlet Pimpernel. It has aged well. Johanna Ward is fun to listen to. She puts the author's rather melodramatic prose in the best possible light by reading with restraint, gravity and authority. She also renders fluently the frequent names and phrases in French. Although character voices are not highly differentiated, it's always clear who's speaking and how he or she feels. Good production values top off the welcome reappearance of an old friend. J.N. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
