Welcome to power yoga boot camp!
Forty strangers with no previous yoga experience take a week out of their hectic lives to travel to the island paradise of Maui and put themselves in the hands of celebrity yoga master Baron Baptiste. From a full-time mom to a steel worker, from a doctor to a college student, these people represent a slice of America and are all in Maui for one reason: to transform their lives.
Follow the group as Baron leads them through seven days of joyful ‘suffering’—intense yoga sessions, meditation, a cleansing diet—that will lead to personal joys and break-throughs, that they—and you-discover through the unexpected power of yoga. It is the most complete one-stop transformation you could ever find.
Also included is a bonus 20-minute yoga session that you can do at home. Led by Baron Baptiste, he personally walks you through the building blocks that will allow you to sculpt and tone your body while igniting your spirit and freeing your mind.
Baron Baptiste has studied yoga and meditation since childhood. He launched his teaching career in Los Angeles where he quickly became the yoga trainer to the stars, with such clients as Elisabeth Shue, Helen Hunt, and Raquel Welch. Baron is now the owner/director of the Power Yoga Institute in Boston and Cambridge, and is the author of the groundbreaking yoga book Journey into Power.

Baron Baptiste (author of Journey into Power) is known as yogi to the stars, but in this PBS special he leads 40 regular people with little or no yoga experience in a week-long "boot camp" on Maui. Divided into a segment per day, the 37-minute documentary shows the plebes in class--shirtless potbellies and all--as they start slow and build up yoga steam. These scenes are intercut with explanations from Baptiste about his yoga philosophy and brief participant interviews. Included is a 21-minute workout with the guru leading this same class in the positions learned during camp. He dispenses with the documentary's proselytizing, focusing on a challenging series of forward bends, high pushups, warrior poses, bridge poses, and tortuous sit-ups. Throughout the lesson, he explains the correct position, adjusts students, and makes them--and you--hold the poses for several seconds longer than seems possible. --Kimberly Heinrichs
