In this collection of 60+ short humorous essays, Woodiwiss fearlessly takes on all comers, from himself to nosey neighbors to Pope John Paul II, affectionately known to Bob as the "The Deuce." Whether he's explaining why he doesn't fly a flag — "the stripes make my house look fat" — or his bed-and-breakfast social gaffes, Woodiwiss is sharp, smart, and Dorothy-Parker funny.

On Life: "I live an uncomfortable life. Not unhappy or dissatisfied or seething. Uncomfortable. Entirely survivable, scarcely convivial. Like, say, driving cross-country with Nancy Reagan. I attribute this overall dissettlement to six basic sources: People, events, institutions, issues, processes and, of course, et cetera."
On Patriotism: "There are strict rules governing the hows and whens and wheres of displaying the United States flag and if I were any good whatsoever at following strict rules, I wouldn’t have a pair of cuticle scissors and three bottle caps lodged in my large intestine.
On Employment: "It was also a time in my life when unemployment was not so much an unfortunate temporary condition as an agreeably unhurried lifestyle:"
On Golf: "We get quite excited when we think we’ve spotted Fred Couples and Phil Mickelson just ahead of us on the course. The excitement fades as we quickly realize none of us has any idea what Fred Couples and Phil Mickelson look like."About the Author:
Bob Woodiwiss began his career as a writer/satirist at age seventeen, when a self-published parody of his high school’s newspaper earned him an eight-day suspension. After a string of nowhere jobs, including two sooty years as a chimney sweep (honest!), and college, where he majored in ‘curve-busting’, Bob founded his own ad agency, Bob, the Agency, which he still owns and operates. His column, Pseudoquasiesque ran for eight years in Cincinnati Citybeat and his work has appeared in a number of national magazines and alternative papers, including, oddly, the Italian communist newsweekly, Il Manifesto. Bob reluctantly lives and lives reluctantly in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is his first book.
