North American's T-6: A Definitive History of the World's Most Famous Trainer is the book the world's extensive T-6 community has been waiting years to have. Author Dan Hagedorn, Curator for the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington, combines his professional documentation skills with rare access to valuable North American archival material to write the definitive book about one of the world's most beloved World War II aircraft. The T-6 served as an advanced trainer for military pilots from more than 80 nations around the world for several decades. In addition to highly detailed documentation of every T-6 variant used by both the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Navy, all foreign T-6s manufactured in America or exported overseas are listed by individual country as well. Of the nearly 16,000 T-6s built, many hundreds are still flying today as prized restored collectibles or airshow performers, giving this book a large potential readership.

It has been said that “fighters make movies and bombers make history.” The most important link in this aeronautical chain may be that trainers make pilots. With colorful names like Yellow Peril and Tweety Bird, military trainers have occupied a special place in history and in the lives of their pilots. Perhaps none is more renowned than the “Texan.” Used by more than 80 countries, the T-6 became the trainer of choice for air forces needing modern piloting capability. With nearly 20,000 built, this ubiquitous machine became widely available at the end of World War II. As a testimony to their longevity, many hundreds are still flying today, performing at air shows, competing in air races, and supplying their skilled pilots with the thrilling aviation experiences only a 600-hp radial-engine warbird can provide. Author Dan Hagedorn has produced an impressive compilation of T-6 information and data. Augmenting his thorough history of the airplane is a country-by-country tabulation of all foreign versions, as well as appendices detailing production numbers and U.S. aircraft unit assignments. He has created the definitive history of one of aviation’s classic military aircraft, and undoubtedly the world’s most famous trainer―the incomparable North American T-6 Texan.About the Author:
