Carole Gerber is the author of many books for children, including LEAF JUMPERS, WINTER TREES, and ARCTIC DREAMS. She lives in Columbus, Ohio. From School Library Journal:
reS-Gr 1-Told from a child's perspective, this simple, rhyming story contrasts the coldness of winter with the comfort of being snug and warm inside. The quality of the text varies. In some instances it reads well: "Outside, I see it's gray and white/A snowy blanket wraps the night." Other sections are trite: "Outside, the snow surrounds a tree/Inside, a soft quilt covers me." Eventually the storm subsides, and he bundles up to play outside before curling up in his bed for the night. Watercolor-and-pencil illustrations complement the narrative, but in some cases the boy is stiffly drawn. The art shows the swirling wind, and the sky appears cold and gray as snow piles up outside. Inside looks "warm and bright" and a cozy orange-and-yellow glow surrounds the boy as he sips cocoa by the fire. An additional purchase.
