A Modeling Approach to Algebra is a flexible and versatile set of curriculum materials that can be used at middle school, high school, or post-secondary levels. There are two main components of the materials, a Student Book and a Teacher Edition. This Student Book consists of six chapters of problems that make use of the modeling standards as articulated in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Chapter 0 Getting Started sets expectations, and Chapters 1-5 focus on selected content standards outlined in the traditional pathway for high school algebra I. ● Research-based materials support learning algebra concepts with understanding through investigations involving mathematical modeling. ● Accessible and challenging coursework appropriate for all students. ● Investigations and long-term projects emphasize the modeling cycle, a focus of the High School Modeling standards of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. ● Active participation allows students to engage with the Standards for Mathematical Practice. ● Integrated technology provides students access to mathematical concepts through the use of dynamic tables and graphs. ● Investigations promote problem solving, multiple representations, and student discourse. The Teacher Edition is needed to effectively use and understand the problems in the Student Book.
