John Carlini is a musical Renaissance man. He embraces all styles of music with an understanding & passion that is evident every time he picks up his guitar. His influences range from guitarists like Andres Segovia, Django Rhinehardt & Lenny Breau, to pianist Bill Evans & saxophonist John Coltrane. Carlini has the uncanny ability to incorporate all these players’ styles & make them his own. John truly has music in his blood. His father was a violinist in the New York Philharmonic, while his mother was a virtuoso piano player. John graduated from Berklee School of Music & went on to collaborate in musical ventures with contemporary acoustic musicians like David Grisman, Tony Rice, Andy Statman & Butch Baldassari. When he’s not teaching, John fronts his own quartet performing many of his original compositions. Now sit back & listen & learn from one of the best. Peter Becker (Mandolin Bros guitar tech & freelance writer)

Review: Acoustic Guitar Magazine Feb 2002 by David McCarty For those who are ready for a more advanced & demanding look at swing & jazz guitar, John Carlini’s 2-DVD or VHS set, "Chord Solo Guitar," takes basic swing arrangements to a whole new level. Anyone who has marveled at the grace & sophistication of great solo jazz guitarists like Joe Pass will want to check out Carlini’s videos, which open the door to such demanding arrangements. Incorporating a host of jazz standards, the videos delve deep into the theory needed to make a single acoustic guitar sound like a band of seasoned jazz cats. The videos are aimed at helping the sutdent play the melody, chords, & bass line in such a way as to suggest the tune’s complete arrangement. The production values are very strong, with great lighting, sound, & split-screen camera work. What’s most impressive is that Carlini, who may be best known for mentoring flatpicking wizard Tony Rice, manages to present these complex concepts clearly & simply. Alternating between fingerstyle & flatpicked arrangements, he gives the student a broad understanding of the fundamental elements of jazz chord soloing.
