Hitters can establish the correct approach by first knowing where to look for the ball in the strike zone, and then being aggressive when the ball enters that specific area. With less than two strikes in the count, most good hitters will look for a ball up in the strike zone (from waist level to below the hands) and out over the plate. It is on this particular pitch - from the middle of the plate to the outside corner of the plate - that hitters learn how to be patient. In order to hit such a pitch aggressively, hitters have to wait a bit longer and make contact farther back in the hitting zone than they do on an inside pitch.
