Synopsis
PROGRAM COMPONENTS AND FORMAT: Each of the program's 24 lessons features four words. Although the lessons follow the same format and maintain the same level of difficulty, they should be taught sequentially since the review sheets cover words from previous lessons. The program is divided into four units for grading a assessment purposes. For each lesson, teachers will use a 22"x 28" poster, 4 flash cards, 3 teacher pages (Discussion Starters, Kinesthetic Activities, and Vocabulary Development), 14 reproducible student pages (Poem Mini-Poster, Picture-Word Matching Game, 4 Word Practice sheets, 4 worksheets, and 4 review sheets), and student Word Banks. A reproducible Assessment Checklist (for use at appropriate times throughout the year) and 4 Unit Tests are also provided. PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY AND OVERVIEW: PCI Sight Words 1 taught the first 144 high-frequency words. This sight-words module (PCI Sight Words 2) teaches 96 additional words. PCI Sight Words uses an engaging, multisensory approach to helping beginning, struggling, and reluctant readers learn the meaning, spelling, pronunciation, and usage of high-frequency words. This program is especially effective for students who have difficulty learning phonics. PCI Sight Words integrates strategies from learning styles, multiple intelligences, and brain-based learning to maximize student learning and retention. An easy-to-follow routine incorporates the four learning modalities through each lesson (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic). A laminated, one-page guide that summarizes this 12-step routine is included in the front of the binder.
