Some individuals like to work alone, slowly and methodically; another person might procrastinate until the last minute, then power through to get the work done. No one way is right or wrong. Each approach is a function of a person's behavioral style.

Whether managing projects, handling workplace interruptions, or multi-tasking, an individual's time management skills have a huge impact on organizational productivity. What's My Time Style helps individuals understand their approach to time management, based on personal style. This assessment, part of the best-selling HRDQ Style series, enables participants to learn how to manage their time more efficiently and work more productively with people who manage their time differently.

Learning Outcomes

- Identify a preference for one of four personal time management styles
- Learn how to capitalize on time management strengths
- Understand how to avoid potential time management trouble spots
- Improve interactions with others who have different time management styles

How It Works

Participants respond to 21 statements by choosing the response that most closely reflects the way they manage time. Scoring reveals the individual's Time Style Profile, which indicates a dominant preference for one or more of the personal styles: Direct, Spirited, Considerate, or Systematic.

The Self-Assessment, which is available in print or online form, takes around 10 minutes to complete. We recommend allowing approximately one hour for score interpretation, debriefing, discussion, and action planning. The Facilitator Guide offers various easy-to-follow workshop outlines which can be used to expand the classroom training into a half-day program.

Trainer certification is not required in order to facilitate What's My Time Style.

Uses for What's My Time Style

What's My Time Style is appropriate for anyone to use for both personal and management development. The assessment can be used as a stand-alone training assessment, or it can be incorporated into a more comprehensive training program on time management, meetings, project management, or facilitating.

Theory

What's My Time Style is based on the well-known research and personality theories of psychologists Carl Jung, William Moulton Marston, and others. This research has identified two basic dimensions of style, which we refer to as assertiveness and expressiveness. Assertiveness is the effort a person makes to influence or control the thoughts or actions of others. Expressiveness is the effort that a person makes to control his or her emotions and feelings when relating to others.

Combining the two dimensions results in a four-quadrant model with four unique personal styles. This is the basis for the HRDQ Style Model and the assessments and training in the HRDQ Style Series.
