Teamwork is vital to organizational success, yet so many teams struggle with it. Often, it's because they don't have a clear vision of how a well-oiled team looks, acts, and feels.
Jungle Escape is an excellent way to introduce the basic elements of teamwork, energize mature teams, uncover team blockages, or improve productivity between work groups. This team-building game delivers first-hand learning experience via a fun and adventurous survival scenario. And the hands-on design enables players to discover and practice critical group-process skills such as team planning, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
- Understand the difference between Cohesive, Fragmented, and Divergent teams
- Learn and practice the nine elements of effective teamwork
- Experience vital group-process skills
- Demonstrate the balance between planning and implementation
- Recognize the impact of individual behavior on group productivity
- Establish action-planning steps for improved team performance
How It Works
Participants are presented with the scenario: Stranded in a remote jungle following an airplane crash, teams are challenged to build a makeshift helicopter using only toy parts, limited access to a model, and teamwork. When the team believes they've properly built their aircraft, the facilitator checks the helicopter for accuracy and then records the amount of time that was dedicated to planning and construction. The winner? The team that spends the most time planning is typically the team that completes the project the fastest. Following the activity, team members discuss team dynamics, offer insights, and create an action plan for improvement.
The Jungle Escape kit contains everything you need to train up to three teams of five or six players at one time, allowing you to deliver an interactive, 90-minute team-building exercise. Additional materials such as extra helicopters, more participant guides, and fun, reusable props like inflatable palm trees can also be ordered.
The Jungle Escape 5th Edition Complete Kit includes:
- Facilitator Guide
- Three sets of colorful, reusable helicopter parts
- One helicopter for use as the facilitator's model
- Assorted spare helicopter parts
- 18 participant guides
- Workshop guidelines
- CD-ROM containing additional facilitator support materials
Uses for Jungle Escape
Jungle Escape can be used as a standalone team-building exercise or as part of a more comprehensive training program. It was developed specifically for new and intermediate work groups, but it's also an excellent refresher and energizer for more mature teams. It can also be used to:
- Introduce the elements of effective teamwork
- Kick off a team-building workshop or seminar
- Improve productivity between multiple work teams
- Identify group issues or concerns that block team performance
- Energize established work teams
The theory behind Jungle Escape is based on research which suggests that the amount of time that a group dedicates to the planning and implementation phases of a project will determine, in part, how effectively it operates as a team. Upon this basis, Jungle Escape broadly identifies the three types of teams at the core of the learning: Fragmented, Divergent, or Cohesive.
