Martha A. Crawford, the daughter of a Mississippi Baptist minister and his wife, was reared in a rural community in Benton County, Mississippi. Her goals and values were greatly influenced by the folk in that community and in the churches her father pastored. She and her twin brother. Lanny, were delivered by an old country doctor at their home. They were taken to church for the first time when they were two weeks old. When they were three weeks old, they were placed in a quilt-lined zinc tub and taken on a fishing trip. They were born on Halloween and have spent years trying to decide who was the "trick" and who was the "treat". After graduating from Blue Mountain College with a degree in Medical Technology, Martha worked in a lab until going back to college to take education courses. A twenty-five year career of teaching science in high school followed. Martha comes from a writing family; her father, mother, and brothers being successful authors of many published books and articles. Her husband, Ray, has authored published articles and her son, Clint, has just completed his first novel. She stays busy with speaking engagements, encouraging everyone to do just what Joe McAnally in The Binding Place did when she says, "Don't give up! Keep going!” Martha and her husband, Ray, live in Blue Mountain, Mississippi where they enjoy their family and wholesome country life.
