About the Author
Joe Hilley is an author who is also an attorney with an M.Div, degree. His broad experience and many years in the Deep South set a wonderful foundation for Sober Justice. Hilley lives in Fairhope, Alabama, with his wife Joy and their two young children, Laura Catherine and Jack.

Hilley's Sober Justice is a legal thriller on the quiet side--more like an old-fashioned police procedural. It's about an alcoholic attorney, Mike Connolly, appointed as public defender for an indigent black man, a repeat offender accused of murder. Irked when he understands that the reason he has been appointed is his sloppy reputation, Mike really works his case. Slowly, the compassionate man emerges from despair. The premise isn't fresh, but Hilley makes an appealing protagonist out of Mike, and he clearly understands police work. John Mort
