Shirley Dicks lives in Tennesee with her daughter and grandson and has written about the prison system and the death penalty in the United States.She has nine published books in the United States on crime and punishment, and one published in Germany.
She has also been published in many magazines, including Prison Life, Women's World, Joyful Women, Listen, Our Family, Joy, Listen and others. Shirley won the Silver Poet's Award in 1990 and the Banners Silver Pen Award. She is founder and President of Tennessee Friends Outside, and Founder and President of The Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition. She is a member of MVFR, Coalition to Abolish The Death Penalty, TCASK, and CURE.
Shirley is a speaker at colleges, schools against the death penalty and talking to the younger kids about finding themselves in trouble or in prison. She has been on talk shows such as Geraldo, Sally, The Shirley Show, Maury, Rolonda and Jerry Springer. The BBC did a documentary on her life story, which was played overseas.
