First book about these Civil War soldiers. From the Inside Flap:
The Twenty-seventh Louisiana Volunteer Infantry details the courageous plight of this regiment assigned to defend Vicksburg, Mississippi, during the Civil War. Included are details of the political climate of Louisiana, the Louisiana Secession Convention, the creation of military camps, the unit's journey from Camp Moore to Vicksburg, and the battles of Champion Hill, Grand Gulf, and Big Black River Bridge.
Terry G. Scriber, inspired by his great-great-grandfather Burlin Moore Scriber, who served as a corporal in the Twenty-seventh Louisiana Infantry's Company B, celebrates the undaunted courage of this regiment and offers tribute to the men who defended Vicksburg. Most impressive was their ambitious stand against Union soldiers during the forty-seven-day siege to take over the city that President Lincoln referred to as the "key" to winning the war.
A former deputy sheriff with the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Department, Terry G. Scriber has worked as a safety and loss-prevention manager for a major theme park chain, casino chain, and large New Orleans country club. Born in Delhi, Louisiana, he attended Northwestern State University and now resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his wife, Theresa. In addition to his writing projects and historical research, he enjoys touring Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields, museums, and cemeteries.
