About the Author

Deborah Blumenthal is an award-winning journalist and the author of two BookSense 76 winners, including Aunt Claireís Yellow Beehive Hair. She worked as a home design columnist for New Yorkís Newsday, and her stories have appeared in national magazines such as The Washington Post, Family Circle, and Cosmopolitan. A native New Yorker, Blumenthal now lives in Houston, Texas, and works as a full-time writer.

From the Back Cover

Aunt Claire had a throaty voice and sharp, red-painted nails and was famous for the magical beauty creams she cooked up in her kitchen. Until now Annie has known about her only through stories told around the family dinner table and from a purple ribbon once worn in Aunt Claire's yellow beehive hair.

Annie wants to get to know the family who came before her, who helped make her own family who they are--and who she is too. So on a rainy day she and Grandma collect dusty photos, faded letters, fragile old wedding lace, and the stories that tie them all together, and Annie discovers a way to feel close to this family, now gone, but not forgotten.

In a glorious duet of words and images, Deborah Blumenthal and Mary GrandPrï¿1/2 offer a tender tribute to families as they have been, as they are now, and as they are ever in the process of becoming.

Deborah Blumenthal, like young Annie in this story, fondly remembers visits to her grandparents' home during which she would pore over old family photo albums and search through dresser drawers filled with memorabilia that provided clues to her family's past. She is an award-winning journalist and the author of two BookSense 76 winners, Aunt Claire's Yellow Beehive Hair and Don't Let the Peas Touch. She and her husband live in Houston, Texas.

Mary GrandPrï¿1/2, illustrator of J. K. Rowling's phenomenally successful Harry Potter books, remembers drawing at age five and going through a "Salvador Dali stage."
