From the Inside Flap:

"Hooray! Here is an authentic Louisiana folk tale wonderfully adapted for telling aloud by one of Louisiana's favorite storytellers. Kids will enjoy singing along as the rascally roaches party while the hard-working hen is away."
--Gale K. Criswell, former children's services consultant, State Library of Louisiana
Quite a long time ago, chickens and cockroaches were the very best of friends. Yet there is a reason why they no longer get along . . .
Madame Poulet and Monsieur Roach live in a beautiful home. They have agreed to share their responsibilities and work together. But Monsieur Roach is one lazy bug. Before long, he has Madame Poulet tricked into doing all the work and foraging for all their food while he, the rascally roach he is, spends his days singing and dancing with his creepy-crawly friends.
When Madame Poulet comes home early one day to find that her best friend has taken advantage of her, she is furious! Fuming and clucking, she puts an end to her roach problem once and for all.

Dianne de Las Casas is an award-winning author, storyteller, and recording artist. Her work has earned rave reviews from School Library Journal, Booklist, and Kirkus. She performs worldwide at schools, conferences, and special events. The author of many picture books with Pelican, including Mama's Bayou, The House That Witchy Built, and Blue Frog: The Legend of Chocolate, de Las Casas lives with her family in the New Orleans area. She often wishes that she had a chicken to take care of the rascally roaches that sneak into her house.

Marita Gentry is a professional artist whose artwork is displayed in galleries throughout Louisiana. Her vivid illustrations have earned her numerous awards and commissions. An accomplished teacher, she is involved in several artist-in-residence programs each year to help schools enliven their walls with murals. This is Gentry's sixth picture book with Dianne de Las Casas. Their collaborations include Beware, Beware of the Big Bad Bear!, The Cajun Cornbread Boy, The Gigantic Sweet Potato, There's a Dragon in the Library, and Dinosaur Mardi Gras. She loves a good party, but not when roaches are dancing on the dishes! Gentry lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
