9781591602347: White Man in A Black Man's World

Richard Vermillion's unique life experiences chronicled in "White Man in a Black Man's World™:Learning to be Black While Wearing White Skin" have given him profound revelations concerning racial, social, and cultural issues that will inspire you--and challenge your beliefs. Hilarious one moment and dramatic the next, his story will captivate your attention as he takes you from one awkward encounter to another. He writes in his introduction:

Come with me and peek behind the curtain of races you may have not known to see things you may have never been aware were there. Let me show you the thoughts, attitudes, and paradigms of people whose skin color may be different from yours, and whose culture to whom you may not relate or perhaps even understand. My desire is that you would gain greater empathy and comprehension for another race that will lead you to peace and reconciliation within yourself; that bitterness would disappear, hatred would be turned into love, and segregation and distrust would become acceptance and harmony.

(Taken from Author's Introduction, "White Man in a Black Man's World™")

Delightfully comical at times, and profoundly thought-provoking at others, "White Man in a Black Man's World™" will inspire you now and influence you for years to come. "White Man in a Black Man's World" and blue zoot-suit images are trademarks of Richard Vermillion.

From the Author:

In writing "White Man in a Black Man's World™", I strove to create a thought-provoking autobiography with a radically different perspective of racial and cultural issues than is commonly found today. The book takes the reader on a journey of discovery as I recount my transformation from racial and cultural innocence as a Caucasian child, through my awkward experiences as minority in a mostly-African American school, through various military and adult experiences, and concluding with my becoming the first Caucasian staff minister at a large predominately-black church in Richmond, Virginia. Full of hilarious real-life events, dramatic experiences, and what some have called "profound revelations" that resulted from these, I endeavor to challenge the reader to reconsider their own thoughts about race and culture, while entertaining them with a story that some have graciously called "wonderful" in the process. My prayer is that every person who reads this book will find it all of the above, and even more.

About the Author:

Richard Vermillion is a public speaker, author, and an ordained minister. As recounted in his autobiography, "White Man in a Black Man’s World™: Learning to be Black While Wearing White Skin", his experiences growing up in both Caucasian and African American environments has enabled him to offer the world a fresh perspective on issues of race, religion and politics not commonly heard in the public arena. As both an author and a speaker, Richard has the profound ability to approach current issues from a provocative viewpoint that is as unique as the events that shaped it.

As a minister, Rev. Vermillion has spoken in churches of different denominations and racial mixes, urban and rural, large and small. He was also the first Caucasian minister appointed to the staff of one of the largest predominately-black Christian churches in Richmond, Virginia, numbering over 4,000 members at the time.

Richard has appeared on television broadcasts locally, nationally and internationally and now travels to churches and conferences around the country with inspiring messages of love, faith, and reconciliation. Delightfully funny in his presentation while confrontive in his message, Rev. Richard Vermillion is a favorite preacher and teacher virtually everywhere he speaks. He currently resides in Richmond, Virginia with his wife and best friend, Donna, and their two children.

"White Man in a Black Man's World" is a trademark of Richard Vermillion.
