Matias Montes Huidobro was born in Sagua la Grande, Cuba, and is a well known writer. A playwright, poet, essayist and novelist, he has received numerous awards, among them the Café Gijon award from Spain, Prometeo and Jose Antonio Ramos awards from Cuba, the Rene Ariza award from the United States and the the Fondo de Cultura award from Mexico.
