Robert B. Ingram has been a trailblazer all of his life. Early in his career he risked his life and thwarted death threats to become the first African American policeman to work in an all-white section of downtown Miami, the first African American policeman to be assigned to the prestigious motorcycle unit, and later on, the first African American Miami Police Officer to retire and become Chief of an urban Police department. He is a tireless community worker and is the only person to have been elected to six consecutive terms as Mayor of Opa-Locka, Florida.
Currently, Dr. Ingram is Vice Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Public School Board, the fourth largest school district in the nation. He is also Professor of Criminal Justice and Assistant to the President for Urban Affairs at Florida Memorial College. Additionally, he serves as Pastor of the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Ingram remains deeply committed to improving overall social conditions and especially those of African Americans. Married for over four decades to the former Delores Newsome, he has two daughters, six grand daughters, one grand son and two great grand sons.
