From the Front Cover

"When faced with adversity we each must remember our potential and what we are capable of. Simon Lewis's inspiring account helps us to understand that hope is real and that survival behavior can lead you to exceed expectations."  --Bernie Siegel, MD, author, Love, Medicine and Miracles

An impassioned tale of survival and recovery, this inspirational story recounts the author's horrific car accident, his subsequent coma, and the more than 15 years of cutting-edge treatments and therapies endured during convalescence. With specific details of the rigorous rehabilitation process that ensued, including numerous breakthrough and experimental surgeries, the book also provides practical insight into navigating the treacherous world of insurance and how to differentiate between the often conflicting medical opinions offered. In addition to describing the numerous procedures undergone, the author tells not only of his pain, frustration, and despair, but also of his childlike wonder at the beauty and miracle of creation. A first-person account of sudden, unexpected tragedy and life-affirming courage, this remarkable tale of regeneration imparts lessons both medical and spiritual.

From the Author:

My experience writing my inspirational memoir Rise and Shine has been an incredible journey of hope and sharing.
It began when one of my doctors told me that given  the state of my mind her colleague -- an expert in rehabilitation -- would call my recovery "a miracle." I wanted my book to shine a light to help others find the hidden path, and its message of hope continues to spread information and inspiration around the world. Since publication, I've been invited to speak at international conferences, from INK on TED in India, to OCTANe and CTV keynote presentations in California, to an invitation to the Royal Society of Arts in London, as well as radio interviews on National Public Radio, KCRW, and Radio Netherlands Worldwide.
My book's message of hope to help others search for their hidden path continues to reach out, with a pending interview on BBC World Service on a program with an audience of 43 million around the world.

About the Author:

Born in London, Simon Lewis is an author, and film and television producer with degrees from Christ's College Cambridge and Boalt Hall, Berkeley. He lives in Los Angeles.

In his inspirational memoir he uses his personal story to illustrate deep and universal insights about consciousness itself. An acclaimed author, speaker and commentator, Lewis uses creative visualizations that fuse cutting-edge medicine, scientific research and digital art to illustrate solutions to society's most pressing problem: the erosion of consciousness and need for solutions to nurture and grow our minds through cognitive and other therapies.

An advocate for change in how we educate our children and ourselves, he says that we must not take our consciousness for granted, but use specific tools to screen and detect learning weaknesses and prevent academic failure. Bridge the gap from our potential mind toward our actual mind and maximize consciousness itself across our population, from child to adult.

Book Description Santa Monica Press, United States, 2010. Hardback. Book Condition: New. 2nd ed.. Language: English . Brand New Book. When I was thirty-five, my wife and I were both reported dead by the first paramedics to arrive at the scene of a seventy-five-mile-an-hour hit-and-run. My wife Marcy died instantly that day. With brain damage from a massive stroke and my body broken, I wasn t expected to survive either. So begins Rise and Shine, the dramatic story of Simon Lewis and his remarkable recovery from a horrific car accident. Told through the eyes of someone who has lived through it and successfully overcome the hurdles of the health insurance maze, Rise and Shine is a first-person account of unexpected tragedy and life-affirming courage, with lessons both medical and spiritual. Rise and Shine shows how much patients can achieve, beyond the limited horizons of insurance-based diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, to attain maximum regeneration and rebuild their lives. An inspiring story about what it means to return to life after a near-death experience, Rise and Shine is, essentially, an exploration of the nature of consciousness itself, and an impassioned tale about survival and recovery.
