About the Author:

Kay Gabrysch has been leading Bible studies for over twenty years and currently teaches twice weekly at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas. She also teaches classes for Dallas Theological Seminary and Reformed University Fellowship and is a retreat and conference speaker, small business owner, wife, and mother of two.

Review:

"The narrative of Israel's first two kings, Saul and David, is the thrilling account of promise, loss, deception, valor, sin, dignity, restoration and hope. But 1 and 2 Samuel are much more. They are God's preview of the greater Kingdom to come and of a greater King than David. They tell us not just of those to emulate or pity, but of the One to whom these accounts point as the true King who pitied us when we were his enemies and who defeated our rebellious hearts that we might be partakers of His grace and Kingdom. Kay Gabrysch leads us well through these adventuresome stories to the throne of David's greater Son. And she does so in an accessible way that draws us in and provokes our our desire for more serious study of God's word."
—Joseph (Skip) Ryan, D.D., Chancellor and Professor of Practical Theology, Redeemer Seminary, Dallas

"There is no greater gift that a pastor or Bible teacher can give to the church than to show people how to become intentionally careful readers of the Word of God. Kay Gabrysch has done just that in her Bible study of 1-2 Samuel. Gracious and accessible, Gabrysch introduces her readers into the world of sound biblical interpretation by emphasizing the storied nature of Scripture. Asking her reader to note plot, context, characterization, and dramatic happenings and anticipations in the story, Gabrysch concentrates on what the Word itself concentrates on, the unfolding story of God's passionate pursuit of a people for his name. Yet this is no mere exercise in historical reading, as Gabrysch is just as earnest in the equally biblical concern to bridge the horizon of the text and the horizon of the contemporary church. The story of Israel's king is our inheritance, our covenantal memory, as we too look to our King and his coming kingdom."
—Michael D. Williams, Professor of Systematic Theology, Covenant Seminary, St. Louis

"Our Women's Bible Study was blessed in several ways and on several levels as we worked our way through Kay Gabrysch's study of 1 and 2 Samuel. Kay's thoughtful framework and insightful questions helped us to engage these Old Testament narratives with heightened expectation. We were not disappointed. The revelation of God's work in pursuit of his people was freshly heralded, and the path from Samuel to David came alive, and therein we were ultimately pointed to Christ. That this study facilitated both a deeper understanding of an astounding and transitional period in Israel and also emphasized a practical and personal application of the truth disclosed about our own need and the Lord's provision made it an immensely worthy study."
—Richard Colquitt, Assistant Pastor for Community Formation, Christ the King Presbyterian Church, Houston ---
