Terri Fields, an author and English teacher, lives in Phoenix, Arizona. From School Library Journal:
Grade 10 Up—Saturday nights at Burger Heaven are always busy, but this night is different from the outset. A family emergency pulls the night manager away, leaving Jordan, an overstressed overachiever, in charge. The understaffed crew of teenage workers accommodates the customers, but toward the end of the night nerves and tempers are ready to flare. Just before closing time two armed men walk in, and a foiled robbery attempt and hostage situation follow. The author has constructed an interesting story line in which the principal players are introduced separately and then woven into an intricate balance. The multiple points of view allow each character's personality to develop, which enhances the individual's role in the story. As expected from a diverse group, the teens react differently to the situation. The final part of the book takes place one year later and readers are brought up-to-date on how the traumatic event affected the teens' lives. The story is compelling and the characters are well drawn, giving the book wide appeal for a general audience.—Sharon Morrison, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, OK
