He thought he'd found the GRANDADDY of all mountain lions. When Tom Allison discovered that something had pulled down one of his 1,000-pound longhorn steers and dragged it a quarter-mile across a rocky hillside, he thought it must have been a bear--probably a large grizzly. When he finally got a look at the track he realized he was wrong. The steer had been taken by a cat--a 400-pound cat. But Tom has even bigger problems coming his way....men who would steal everything he owns, and a seven-foot halfbreed Indian who wants to take his son--and will kill anyone who gets in his way!

This book is chiefly a work of fiction, but there are parts of it that are historically accurate: The deaths of mountain men Rose, Glass and Menard in 1833, the U.S. Army's storming of Monterey in September of 1846, and my depiction of Zachary Taylor are all as true as I could make them. Likewise, my descriptions of Grass Valley and Nevada City, CA, the big fire of 1855, the Indian attack (in which one man was killed by no less than thirteen arrows), the history of the Empire Mine--are all true. The Empire Mine was once considered to be the richest gold mine in the world and was still in operation when, as a child, my family and I lived in the town of Grass Valley.About the Author:
Bruce Bradley is a Napa Valley Winemaker who grew up living between California and Alaska. His first book, "HUGH GLASS" was first published in 1999 and has recently been released (hardcover only) to commemorate the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial.
In 2002, World Book Encyclopedia asked Bradley to write an article for them about Hugh Glass.
For a time, as a child, Bruce Bradley lived in the town of Grass Valley, where "THE LAST JAGUAR" takes place.
