Floyd L. Rinehart was born on May 28, 1919 on his parents' farm near Victor, Iowa. In 1932, he survived tetanus and two years later pneumonia and emphysema, after which the doctor recommended lung exercises. So he resumed his track and basketball high school sports activities and won ribbons in the 440-yard dash. His interest in radio led to his first amateur radio license in 1938. He specialized in technical radio and radar in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946, and in 1947 he married Edna, an ex-Navy Wave. Hearing Aids and Political Distortion details his unique transition to the hearing field.
