Deborah Chancellor trained as an elementary school teacher before becoming an editor of children's books. She has written more than thirty books for children, including Maps and Mapping and Planet Earth in the Kingfisher Young Knowledge series.
Gr 2-3-Despite hokey sound effects on nearly every spread ("WHOOEE!" "WHUPPPA! CHUPPPA!"), these galleries of rescue vehicles mix salutary doses of information in with the drama. Each volume profiles several types of vehicles-from conventional police cars, boats, and aircraft to Coast Guard vessels and even a fire train. Action photos are paired with pithy but specific captions. Some entries, such as the paramedic and firefighter motorcycles in Ambulance and Fire Rescue respectively, are unlikely to be seen in this country but add unusual diversity. Each volume closes with a mini quiz (short answer, not multiple choice) and a handful of relevant websites. α(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journal. LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
