Along with her husband, Vickie finds a new life in southeastern Colorado. She soon discovers that although God allows her to experience this Garden of Eden, in return He demands retribution. They live in an isolated house without electricity or telephone. Their car dies a terrible death, and blizzards attack with a fury. Wild animals roam freely, believing this to still be their land. Longhorn cattle fight for survival and count man as a natural enemy. There are horses aplenty, so Vickie borrows a saddle and then is afraid to use the pilfered property. In spite of the hardships, Vickie finds an inner peace. Immersed in a vanishing culture, hers is an experience that many might long to remember, but, unwilling to pay the price, we limit our participation to a vicarious adventure.
