"Parts of" the Horse Definition Cards

View all copies of this ISBN edition:

Definition cards are visual, grammatical puzzles that let children have fun while manipulating the components of a sentence. First children match the full definition (on one card) to a photo of the defined term (from our 3-part cards). Once this is easy for them, we add challenge by asking them to match the term to the rest of the definition (we give them the control card separated into two parts). Finally, we divide the definition into parts and free the children to mix and match phrases while they try to link the term and both halves of its definition (the control card separated into three parts). The control cards free children to work independently because they can check their own work. You can download full lesson plans/instructions for use (text or mp3) from our website for free. Defined terms include horse, head, eyes, nostrils, mouth, ears, neck, mane, torso, forelegs, hind legs, hooves, and tail. 13 terms; 78 cards in all. Approx. card sizes are as follows: control cards (3 x 4), word cards (3 x ), full definition cards (3 x 3) first half of definition cards (3 x 1), and bottom half of definition cards (3 x 3) all with rounded corners, laminated with a heavy 5 mil non-toxic laminate, and in a reclosable bag for easy storage. A standard material in Montessori classrooms.
