These Matching Cards are classic Montessori materials that let the pre-reader work with captivating photos without the distraction of the written word. They are designed to be used in the home or school to teach vocabulary, when playing I Spy sound games, for sorting work (e.g., sorting birds from fish), and for identical matching work. Matching is a wonderful activity that develops visual acuity, memory, concentration, fine motor skills, a logical mind, and self confidence. These cards also give children the opportunity to practice speaking as they will naturally chat about the photos they manipulate. The Butterflies Matching Card packet has beautiful creatures from all across North America including monarch, tiger swallowtail, sulphur, red admiral, common blue, question mark, and more. These cards spark children's interest in the natural world and give them the tools to discuss the zoological specimens they encounter in their daily life. 24 cards (approx. 3 2/3 x 4 1/3 each) in all, 12 with a blue dot on the back and 12 matching photo cards with a red dot on the back (the dots are used to sort the cards back into two sets) plus a control sheet listing the names of all subjects and a sample lesson plan for teacher/parent reference. All photos clearly isolate their subject. All cards are laminated with a heavy 5 mil laminate, have rounded corners, and are packaged in a sturdy reclosable bag for easy storage.
